5 Activities for a Fun-Filled March Break

The March break is just around the corner, and with it comes the annual challenge: how do you plan activities that keep both kids and adults happy? This year, we suggest ditching the usual routine and trying something a original, wintery, and above all… memorable!

Here are our top 5 ideas to help you enjoy an unforgettable family spring break.

Try A Winter Safari 🐻‍❄️

When you imagine a safari, you probably think golden savannas, scorching heat, giraffes and hippos. But in Quebec, we have our own frosty version… complete with mittens, a hat, and snow up to our knees. 😄 Welcome to the winter safari, the perfect activity to observe the iconic species of our northern climate!

The ultimate winter-safari destination? Parc Oméga in the Outaouais region, a massive natural playground home to over 800 animals. Hop into your car (so no excuses for those who can't handle the cold 😉) and set off on a 12 km ride to meet deer, wolves, elk, bears… basically, all the stars of North American wildlife. And don’t forget to stop by the Maison du Parc to stock up on carrots: your new four-legged buddies will happily munch them right from your hands!

Dreaming of an up-close winter encounter with wolves? Head to the LUPO Wolf Sanctuary, where you can observe this species in its natural habitat. Adventurous families can even spend the night in a mini immersive pod beside the wolf enclosures. Snuggled up in your warm cocoon, you’ll get to watch the wolves up close, hear their nighttime howls, and experience something truly out of the ordinary. Chills and unforgettable memories guaranteed!

Plus, access to LUPO’s hiking and snowshoe trails is included. A great way to get moving and enjoy the snowy forest at its best!

Slide Into Winter Fun 🛷

If there’s one winter tradition that never goes out of style, it’s sliding! Kids go wild, parents rediscover their inner child, and everyone zooms down the hill with a grin stretching from ear to ear. A timeless classic!

One of our favourites is Expérience Matha in Lanaudière—a winter wonderland offering fresh air, outdoor activities, and plenty of family fun. Their star attraction? The famous Super Slides, which are some of the most popular in Quebec! Two slopes, runs for all ages, and even rafting-style descents for adrenaline seekers. Get ready to scream… and then go back up for more! 😉

Want something closer to Québec City? Don't sleep on Village Vacances Valcartier. It’s the ultimate winter destination with daytime and evening sliding, illuminated skating paths, and thrilling rafting runs. Looking to extend the magic? Pair your sliding adventure with a visit to the jaw-dropping Ice Hotel—a structure that’s as impressive as it is enchanting. Trust us, it’s worth the trip!

Try Ice Fishing 🎣

Next up is another winter classic: ice fishing! Whether your kids already tried summer fishing or you’re total beginners, this activity is fun, accessible, and perfect for enjoying winter.

Our top pick? Ferme 5 Étoiles, near Tadoussac. The experience is fully guided: an expert helps you drill holes in the ice, teaches you the best techniques, and guides you toward your first catches. And here’s the kicker: if you spend the night on-site, the cook can prepare your freshly caught fish. Trust us, dinner tastes way better when it comes straight from your own fishing line! 😄

Looking for something in Québec City? Head to the Village Nordik in the Old Port whre you'll find trout fishing, all equipment included, with fishing guides on hand to help. You’ll also find a cozy warming area, activities for all ages, and on-site food services. Whether it's your first fishing experience or you’re a seasoned pro ready for a friendly competition, this place is a must!

Hit the Slopes ⛷️

With only a few months to enjoy the ski season, spring break is the perfect time for a family adventure! Whether you’re seasoned skiers or want to introduce your kids to the sport, it’s the ideal moment to strap on your skis and hit the slopes.

Why not combine skiing with breathtaking scenery by exploring the beautiful Charlevoix region? Head to Mont Grand-Fonds, where the spectacular views of the river and surrounding mountains will leave you in awe. For beginners, the learning slope is there to help you build confidence and have fun!

Another favourite is Mont Rigaud in Montérégie. With slopes for all levels and a snow park, there’s something for everyone. Need a little boost to improve your skills? Trust the ski school and its experienced instructors to guide you in a friendly, safe environment!

Treat Yourself at the Sugar Shack 🍁

Last but definitely not least, we have a classic Québec outing: the sugar shack! With the smell of maple syrup in the air, laughter all around, and platefuls of sweet favourites, it’s the perfect family activity (and the chance to declare that yes, maple syrup totally counts as food group 😄). Fair warning: get ready for a collective sugar high!

Just minutes from Victoriaville, Aux Petits Plaisirs sugar shack lives up to its name. In addition to indulging in all kinds of maple treats, you can tour the facilities and learn more about how maple syrup is made. And don’t skip their maple butter cone-making workshop! Mix, fill, taste… then bring your delicious creations home to extend the magic. Yum!
