The perfect road trip in Chaudière-Appalaches

 Building on Grosse Île

You want to go on an adventure this summer but you don't know which destination to choose and tourist attractions to visit? We suggest a getaway to the beautiful Chaudière-Appalaches region! Several essential tourist attractions are to be discovered or rediscovered alone, with friends or with family.

Grosse-Île

Start your journey by visiting Grosse-Île, located in the Isle-aux-Grues archipelago. Only 30 minutes away from Quebec City, board the Vent des Îles boat departing from the Berthier-sur-Mer dock. You will be taken to the island that served as a quarantine station from 1832 to 1937 where more than 4 million immigrants passed through. Park Canada guides will take you on an interpretive tour that tells the story behind Quarantine Island.

Continue your road trip to L'Islet-sur-Mer and stop for the night at the Auberge des Glacis.

Quebec Maritime Museum

On your second day, we suggest you visit the Musée maritime du Québec located in L'Islet-sur-Mer. With over 15,000 artifacts, maps, books and archives, the museum will make you discover the events, places and issues linked with Quebec's maritime history. Founded in 1968, the museum promotes our maritime heritage, highlights the trades related to navigation and emphasizes the relationship between Quebecers and the St. Lawrence River. Visiting the museum will make you experience the daily life of sailors!

End your day with a picnic at the Havre du Souvenir Park. Only a 10-minute walk from the Museum, this place will offer you a magnificent view of the St. Lawrence River.

Massif du Sud Regional Park

On your way back, we invite you to visit the Massif du Sud Regional Park to complete your journey. With more than 71 km of trails, go on a hiking adventure! As a family, follow the Shelter Under the Rock trail where you will be amongst rock formations resembling small caves and you will enjoy a magnificent vantage point from the summit of the Collines du Nord. The Park also offers hebertism courses, geocaching, a guided ornithological hike where you can discover the species living in the Park and stream fishing.

Spend your nights in the wilderness in a Mini-POD located in the Regional Park! Ideal for groups of two to four people, the Mini-PODs are fully equipped: cutlery, kitchen, electric stove, electric fireplace, beds and water jug.
